Reading lables in the supermarket

Please contact your shops, supermarkets and food manufacturers to ask about their GM policy.

The first Australian GM canola crop is about to be harvested and could be in our foods as soon as November 2008 – please also ask supermarkets and manufacturers if they intend to use this GM canola.

Please send the responses you get from supermarkets and food manufacturers to MADGE.

If you’re trying to avoid GM foods, use the Greenpeace True Food Guide and download our handy guide to recognising GM-Free foods.

Supermarkets

Coles and Woolworth sell nearly 75% of Australia’s groceries. Ask them to stock and label GM free food. Contact other supermarkets too:

Food manufacturers

Goodman Fielder and Unilever are two of Australia’s biggest food companies and buy much of the canola grown in Australia. Please ask them to buy non-GM canola.
